Disclaimer

The Last Furnace is general information, not professional, tax or legal advice. Rules vary by state and utility; an installer or the program decides.

Effective 4 November 2026.

General information only

Everything on The Last Furnace (thelastfurnace.com) is general information, published to help readers understand heat pumps, mini splits, furnaces and the rules around them. It is not professional, engineering, tax, legal or financial advice, and it does not take your own home, location or circumstances into account. For decisions that matter, please speak to a qualified professional.

Who decides

Rules, rebates, rates and codes vary by state, county and utility, and they change. A qualified installer sizes and prices the real job. The program decides whether you qualify and what it pays. A tax professional can speak to your tax return. Your local building department decides what permits and inspections the work needs.

Estimates only

Every running cost, saving, size and break-even figure on this site is an estimate. It is not a quote, a bid, a guarantee, a design or a judgment on what you should buy. Our figures are built from public data and stated assumptions, as our how we estimate page explains. Your real result depends on your house, your climate, your rate plan, your equipment and how it is installed. Published prices we mention are other people’s estimates, and we do not vouch for them.

We install nothing

The Last Furnace sells and installs nothing, inspects no homes and does no repair work. We have not seen your house, your system or your quote. Figures we report from makers, programs and other publishers are theirs, and we cannot verify them ourselves.

Safety

Electrical, gas, combustion and refrigerant work can be dangerous. Nothing on this site is an instruction to do that work yourself, and refrigerant work is for technicians certified under EPA Section 608. If you smell gas, leave the area and call 911 from a neighbor’s house or somewhere else well away from the leak (PHMSA). If you suspect carbon monoxide poisoning, get outside to fresh air immediately and then call 911 (CPSC). In any emergency, call 911.

Accuracy

Pages are checked against the sources they cite, but no check catches everything. Prices, rates, rebates, rules and tax law change, sometimes quickly, so a figure may be out of date by the time you read it. Check important details with the original source before you rely on them.

Tax credits and rebates

Notes on tax credits, rebates and program rules are general. They are not tax or legal advice, and they do not mean you qualify. Funds can run out and terms can change without notice, so confirm the current terms with the program or your utility before you sign anything.

Calculators

Calculators give estimates based on what you enter and on the figures and assumptions they show. They are not quotes, guarantees, load calculations, or design, sizing, code or safety sign-offs. They print numbers only, so read the notes on the page around them.

How our content is made

Every page is fact-checked against its sources before it is published. Pages appear under the name The Last Furnace. Our editorial policy explains the process.

Advertising and independence

The Last Furnace is funded by display advertising. Advertisers have no say over what we publish, and an ad on a page is not an endorsement. We use no affiliate links, accept no paid placements, sell no leads, give no quotes and make no installer referrals. Names of companies, products, publishers and agencies are used only to identify them, and we are not affiliated with them.

We link to sources and other websites so you can check what we say. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content.

Questions and corrections

If you think something is wrong, email contact@thelastfurnace.com with the page address and a source, and we will look at it. See also our corrections page and terms of use.
